INDORE: A hearing and speech impaired minor girl, who had come to the city along with her mother to help her elder sister, was raped by a man who lived in Rajendra Nagar, the colony where the survivor too was living.
Incident came to light on Tuesday after an unsuccessful rape bid was made by accused again on Monday, a day before Geeta— the deaf and mute girl who strayed into Pakistan territory a decade and a half ago— is set to arrive in Indore.

The girl had come to the city along with her mother few days ago to help her sister due for delivery, said police.

Accused Sunny Anand Satte, 30, raped the girl finding her alone in her house when her mother and sister had gone to consult a doctor on October 20. She failed to communicate about it to her mother or elder sister and the accused was bolstered by her silence.

He again made a rape bid on Monday but had to flee as an acquaintance came in. Survivor later convinced her sister to take her to some NGO and she was taken to Anand Service Society which helps deaf and mute people. NGO activists understood her ordeal and took her to the police.

The girl was taken to Rajendra Nagar police station and a case was registered against Satte.

She was harassed for about six days by Satte who used to make obscene gestures towards her, NGO activists said.

“The man was waiting for a chance and when the family had gone to the doctor, he barged into the house and forced himself on the minor on October 20,” said Monika Purohit, director of Anand Service Society.

“It is very unfortunate the incident has come to light the day when Geeta is set to come to Indore. On one hand Indore’s institute has been selected to house Geeta, while on the other hand city seems unsafe for such kids,” said Purohit.

Satte was booked under section 376 (rape) of IPC, and relevant sections of Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and SC/ST Act, said Rajendra Nagar police.
