3 JK students ‘abused, beaten up’ in MohaliFile PhotoThree Jammu and Kashmir students were allegedly abused and beaten up in Mohali district of Punjab on the night of March 15 after being labeled as “militants.”

After the attack by local goons, the students were admitted in Civil Hospital, Phase-6 in Mohali area.

“We are about 100 students and labourers from Jammu and Kashmir living in village Chilla in sector 81 of Mohali. Abusing and labeling students from J&K as militants is a routine here, but the attack on the night of March 15 was terrible,” Sanjay Singh Thakur, one of the victims told Greater Kashmir.

Sanjay son of Roshan Thakur is a resident of Batoli, Tehsil Gundoh in district Doda while two other students are Pardeep Singh and Kanwar Satyajeet—residents of Kishtwar.

He said on March 15, at about 9 pm, son of the owner of his rented room—along with some local goons—asked him and other 50 students and labourers of Jammu and Kashmir to vacate his house.

“To this, we objected as we had paid the room rent about 15 days back. Moreover vacating rooms during the night was not possible,” he said. “Irked over our objection, they (local goons) hurled abuses and then started thrashing us with hockey sticks.”

Sanjay said the attackers even labeled the students and labourers from Jammu and Kashmir as “militants”.

“One of them tried to murder me as he tied my neck with his Patka (Turban) but after locals came to our rescue, the goons escaped from the spot,” Singh told Greater Kashmir over phone.

He said that local police have registered a case against the assailants under FIR No 0066 of 2016 under sections 307, 323, 506, 34 of Indian Penal Code but till date none of them has been arrested.

He urged the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir N N Vohra to intervene and take up the issue with the concerned government immediately.http://www.greaterkashmir.com/news/front-page/3-jk-students-abused-beaten-up-in-mohali/212512.html
