Parents of the babies have accused the hospital of negligence that led to the death of the babies. However, the hospital authorities have denied any negligence on their part.
Responding to the accusations Dr B.S Karnawat, head of the paediatrics department in the hospital said, “All the infants were brought from different hospitals in a moribund condition. In some cases we have noted that nothing could be done.” But he confirmed that no senior doctor was available in the hospital despite the raising concerns of the worried parents.
Apart from the five infants, two other children who were admitted with serious infections also died at the hospital. Both the children were 5-year-old and were admitted to the hospital two days ago.
The infants who succumbed to infection were from Bhilwara,
Merta city, Pisangan, Nasirabad and
Beawar. They were kept in ventilators and were suffering from septicaemia, premature birth and respiratory disorder.
The death of the children has prompted Ajmer’s district collector to order a probe in the case. A three-member team of doctors have been set up to investigate the matter. The team will submit its report by the evening.
Rajasthan Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Anita Bhadel, who rushed to the hospital to inquire about the deaths, has confirmed these to be ‘normal deaths’. “The children were already serious and one among them was already on ventilator. Despite the best efforts by the doctors, they could not be saved. I can say with certainty that these were normal deaths, due to illnesses,” said Bhadel.
