Disproportionate assets case

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today ordered a CBI inquiry against two serving Major Generals in a disproportionate assets case. Major General Ashok Kumar of Army Service Core and Major General SS Lamba of Army Ordinance Core are accused of paying bribe to get promotion.

This is for the first time that an inquiry has been ordered by the government against top serving  army officers.

Top Defence Ministry sources said, “Action have been taken on the basis of various complaints recieved against these officers.”

In persuance of zero tolerance policy against corruption,  Parrikar has asked the CBI to investigate all movable and immovable assets earned by these officers.

According to sources, the promotion board was approved during the tenure of former Military Secretary Lt. Gen R. Bhalla.

Several complaints were received by the Ministry of Defense(MoD) against the officers for paying bribe to secure their promotions to the rank of Lt. General. (ALSO READ : Defence ministry launches website for interface with industry).

“There promotions were approved during the tenure of former Military Secretary Lt. General R. Bhalla (now retired). If required Bhalla will also be examined by the CBI,” ministry sources have informed media sources.

Meanwhile, the CBI is investigating all movable and immovable assets earned by these officers. ).

while both the army officers are under the scanner, the investigations will look into various cases of corruption and misappropriation of funds and money
