Fourteen anti Posco activists who had ostracized fifty two Pro Posco activists for supporting Posco steel project have moved the Orissa High Court to quash the criminal proceedings lodged against them by the rival Pro Posco activists.
It may be recalled that in 2007, the dispute between pro and anti-Posco groups at Patana village of Dhinkia panchayat had resulted in ostracization of 52 families who had to live in temporary shelters erected by the company. The families who were in the Posco transit colony for seven years returned to their village in December 2014 after several rounds of negotiation.
When the clash was at its peak in 2007, one person belonging to the se 52 affected families, Rabindra Sahu had lodged an FIR against 14 anti Posco activists including Dhurab Charan Swain, Surendra Das and others. The police had registered a case and had submitted charge sheet showing the accused persons as absconders. Some of the accused had however been arrested and released on bail by the judicial magistrate first class while a few others had obtained anticipatory bail from the High Court. Meanwhile, petitioner Dhurab Charan Swain and 13 others have moved a criminal mis case against opposite parties state of Odisha and Rabindra Sahu of Patana village in the High Court on last July challenging proceedings of these cases under Kujang police station pending in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Court, Kujang.
The only objective of the police, district administration and state government was to set up steel project by hook or crook so pro Posco groups are being utilized to file frivolous cases against anti Posco groups to curb the anti-displacement movement.
They have also noted that the dispute between them have been amicably settled by the intervention of well wishers and relatives.
The High Court has served notices to the opposite parties including Sahu to appear before the court in person or by advocate by 14th August.
On Sunday, both anti and pro Posco activists have conducted meeting at Patana village to resolve the longstanding dispute between them and to discuss to withdraw the criminal cases against the anti Posco activists.
