The Judicial Magistrate Court at Valliyoor has granted bail to three women protesters against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project arrested recently.

Xavier Ammal, Sundari and Selvi, all from Tsunami Colony in Idinthakarai, were arrested after a clash at the Idinthakarai beach on September 1. They were in Tiruchi Central Prison. While Ms. Sundari is facing eight cases, Ms. Xavier Ammal and Ms. Selvi were cited as accused in six cases.

When the bail petitions in five cases against Ms. Sundari and three cases against Ms. Xavier Ammal and Ms. Selvi came up for hearing at the Judicial Magistrate court at Valliyoor on Saturday, Judge Chrystal Babitha granted them bail with the condition that they should sign at Thallaakulam police station in Madurai every day.

As all the three are facing three more cases and bail petitions are pending before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, they cannot be released unless they obtain bail in the other cases too. Meanwhile, the Kudankulam police picked up for interrogation a group of persons from Kerala when they were returning home after visiting the anti-KKNPP protesters at Idinthakarai.

“Since they have donated a huge sum to the protesters, we are interrogating them at Pazhavoor police station. We can’t come to any conclusion now,” said police sources.
