Bhagat Singh House Toori Bazar

Revolutionaries’ hideout at Ferozepur’s Toori Bazar has been declared protected. Information in this regard was furnished before the Punjab and Haryana High Court in response to a PIL filed by advocate HC Arora for directions to the Punjab government to declare the hideout of revolutionaries led by martyr Bhagat Singh at Toori Bazar as a protected monument.

As the case came up for hearing, an affidavit filed by Director, Department of Cultural Affairs, Archaeology and Museums, Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, was placed before the Bench. It said the building where Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries stayed had been declared protected under The Punjab Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964.

Taking a note of the affidavit, the Bench of Justice Satish Kumar Mittal and Justice Lisa Gill disposed of the PIL filed as “not pressed” as the petitioner was satisfied with the state government’s action. Visually impaired to be considered for cash awardsVisually impaired athlete Balwinder Kaur shall be considered for cash awards for medals won and positions secured in 12 competitions “as soon as the funds were provided by the government,” the High Court was told.

As a petition came up for hearing, the High Court was also told that the government was considering a proposal to treat the medallists of Para Olympics/Para Asian/Para Commonwealth Games on a par with medallists of Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games.Balwinder Kaur was seeking directions to the State of Punjab for cash awards she was entitled to under the government’s sports policy. The High Court was also told: “The government has disbursed cash awards only to the medallists of Asian and Commonwealth Games 2014 in November last as a special case.”
