New Delhi :  The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to the Madhya Pradesh government and senior prison and administrative officials over alleged encounter of eight SIMI operatives who fled from the Bhopal central prison on Monday.

The NHRC issued notice to the state government, the chief secretary, DGP, DG (prisons) and IG (Prisons)

The operatives were killed by police officials at Malikheda on the city outskirts hours after the prison break. The undertrials had escaped around 2-3am on October 31 by  by scaling the prison wall after killing a jail guard.

The encounter raised several eyebrows with politicians, former judges and rights activists terming it extrajudicial killings.

Earlier in the day, justice Markandey Katju too had demanded that those involved in the alleged encounter should get death penalty.
