A computer monitor used in recording the data in regard to the preparation of the National Population Register and kept in the Municipal Travellers’ Bungalow at Manjakupam here was reportedly stolen by certain miscreants on Saturday night.

The intruders gained entry into the bungalow by bending the window grills. The whole lot of devices used for data collection, such as the one for recording the finger prints, a printer and the central procession unit along with the monitor were kept locked in a room in the bungalow.

The door knob seemed to have been broken with a hammer. The culprits to obviate the scent sprinkled chilli powder on the windows and the doorsteps. The data collection process is now underway in the Cuddalore town and the missing monitor was used in Ward No.8. On the complaint of the in-charge of the devices, the police have booked a case. The bungalow is in bad shape and has gone to weeds. It badly needs painting and security. The property located in the heart of the town has virtually gone to seeds for want of maintenance and care. It may be noted that when certain miscreants mad a robbery bid at the Vilvarayanatham Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank in the town chilli powder was seen thrown around all over the place.
