PANAJI: The additional session court, Mapusa, on Tuesday passed an order stating that it will go ahead with argument before framing of charges against Tehelka’s founder editor Tarun Tejapl in the alleged rape case, even if all documents are not submitted to the accused, in view of the Supreme Court’s order. The next hearing is fixed for January 9, 2015, said Tejpal’s lawyer Rajiv Gomes .

It may be recalled that Tejpal is accused of raping his junior colleague at a starred hotel in Goa in November, 2013. The Supreme Court, while granting bail to Tejpal, observed that the trial in the case as far as possible should be completed within eight months, and as far as possible a woman judge should conduct the trail. On May 19, the Apex court granted interim bail to Tejpal to attend the cremation of his mother who died in Goa, and on July 1, the court granted him bail.

Gomes said that the court also directed the prosecution to furnish all remaining documents to the accused at the earliest.

On February 17, the crime branch had charged Tejpal under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (outrage modesty), 341 (wrongfully restrain), 342 (wrong confinement), 376 (rape), 376(2) (f) (person in position of trust for authority over a women committees rape on such women) and 376(2) (k) (rape of a women by a person being in position of control or dominance over the women) of the IPC. tnn
