AGRA: In yet another incident highlighting the insensitivity of the police in dealing with juveniles, a 13-year old dalit boy, accused of eve teasing a minor girl from the same community, was kept chained with fetters around his ankles at Kotwali Police station, Mainpuri, on Saturday.

 

The incident came to light after a media personnel who visited the police station saw the boy chained to a window grill in a room.  The Dalit boy is now booked under Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 323 (Hurt) of the IPC for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl of the same community. On the basis of the complaint filed by the victim’s family, it is known that the names of the the boy’s father and mother are also included int he FIR.

 

When contacted Circle Officer (City), Shishyapal Singh, said the incident was in his knowledge and an inquiry had been instituted. He confirmed that law prohibits handcuffing of juveniles.

 
Singh said the boy was produced before the juvenile court and sent to the children remand home.
