A three-year-old girl was allegedly molested by an attendant at a play school in Rohini in Outer Delhi on Wednesday. The accused has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody by a city court.

The incident came to light in the afternoon when the girl’s parents lodged an official complaint at the Prashant Vihar police station. The accused was arrested immediately after the registration of the complaint following which he was sent to judicial custody.

According to a senior police officer, the minor was molested by a 22-year-old attendant, Amit Kumar, when she was waiting in the classroom for her father to arrive. After the minor’s father picked her up from school, she narrated her ordeal to him and he visited the local police station to file a complaint against the accused.

“A medical examination was conducted at a hospital and doctors confirmed that the minor had been molested. The accused was immediately arrested and produced before a court,” said a senior police officer.

Kumar was booked under Section 354 of the Indian Penal code and appropriate sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Meanwhile, parents who came to drop their children at the play school staged a demonstration there after hearing about the incident. Around 150 of them gathered outside the school and demanded to meet the Principal.

A police team was called to the spot to manage the situation.

“The parents were agitated and were demanding that CCTV footage of the school be examined to verify if the accused had committed similar crimes in the past. Our investigation is on and we are also trying to ascertain if there are other victims at the school. As of now, no evidence has surfaced which can determine if the accused was involved in similar incidents. A thorough investigation will reveal everything,” the officer added.
