Over a week after Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested for allegedly submitting fake academic records to Delhi Bar Council for registering as an advocate, his questioning revealed that he had procured the said documents from two agents.

After keeping silent for over a week, Tomar confessed that he had procured his BSc and LLB degrees from agents in Delhi and Munger, sources said. The confession, however, will not be admissible in court.

During the questioning he revealed that one Vinod, from Munger helped him get the forged LLB degree of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bihar while one Madan, resident of Shakarpur helped him get his BSc degree from Awadh University, UP, sources said.

According to sources, Tomar also revealed that his brother, PS Tomar, who was a practising advocate introduced him to Vinod who used to arrange degrees for others too. “Tomar revealed that he approached his brother who was an advocate to help get a degree since he was unable to clear exams being poor academically. His brother then introduced him to Vinod who helped him get the degree without actually enrolling for the said course,” sources said.

Madan, who runs a private school in Shakarpur and reportedly works as an agent, was Tomar’s neighbour and helped him get a B.Sc degree through his network.

According to sources, Tomar first procured the B.Sc degree in the year 2001 and then the LLB degree from Munger, his questioning revealed.
Tomar reportedly told the police that in order to be socially accepted he wanted to be a graduate but since he was poor in studies he had to take this path. “He said he was active in politics and wanted a career in politics for which he needed the degrees. He confessed that he made a mistake,” sources said.

Tomar’s remand has been extended by four days and he will now be questioned on the network of agents he approached to procure the degrees. Tomar will also be taken for spot visits to Shakarpur. “He will also be questioned on from where he procured the migration certificate which also turned out to be fake. The investigation in the matter is on,” police said.
