Fatehabad, November 29

There seems to be no end to public debate over Health Minister Anil Vij-IPS officer Sangeeta Kalia controversy even after the officer’s transfer from Fatehabad. Many people in Fatehabad, including those in the police, believe that the upright police officer has become the victim of a conspiracy by some local BJP leaders as well as a section of cops opposed to her.“They had even tried to influencethe CM on his visit to Sirsa through a woman BJP leader but they could not succeed.

Ironically, they managed to use Anil Vij, an honest politician, to remove an upright IPS officer from the district,” said a local officer of the district administration. The officer was among those who drafted a letter on behalf of all officers to the CM in Sangeeta Kalia’s support on the day of the incident.“Fatehabad Police Achievement”, a community on Facebook launched by certain cops from the district police, has also backed the SP.“A person comes with a complaint that liquor is being sold in his village.

Our SP madam asks him did you ever come to me or to a police station in the past 10 months (Kalia was SP here for 10 months), the man has no answer. But even then the minister held our SP madam responsible for sale of liquor,” says a post on the community page “Fatehabad Police Achievement”.Meanwhile, some facts have come to the fore in the controversy.

The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Naujwan Sabha on whose complaint the spat cropped up is not an NGO as it is being projected but a political organisation – an offshoot of a communist party. In his very first meeting of the District Grievances and Public Relations Committee, Vij had expressed displeasure at the police functioning.Kalia was not present in his next two meetings and came at the end of the second meeting when Vij specifically asked “Where is the SP?” from her DSP.This time on Friday, Sangeeta Kalia was present in the meeting from the beginning. In two other grievances – one related to the panchayat and the other to the Social Welfare Department – some BJP workers managed to divert the issue to the police, leading to a dressing down of the SHOs concerned.Sources in the police said Sangeeta Kalia’s intervention in a case of the arrest of a gang trying to settle a case of rape for 60 lakh had also ruffled many feathers as she prevented a huge amount of bribery in that case.

Kalia had suspended or sent to the Police Lines five cops, including an officer of the rank of Inspector after finding their role dubious and had handed over Rs60 lakh to the NRI party though courts within 24 hours of recovery.Meanwhile, the police have begun a probe after four pages by the name of former Fatehabad SP Sangeeta Kalia cropped up overnight on Facebook without her knowledge. “I am surprised who has made these pages overnight. In one of these, I have been shown as having been posted at Panchkula while I have never been stationed there.

I have asked the police to probe the matter. I make it clear that I am not on Facebook or any other social networking site and whatever pages have been made in my name are fake,” Sangeeta Kalia told The Tribune.DSP Shamsher Singh Dahiya is conducting the probe to find out as to who had made these pages since these could be misused to damage the police, the government or the former SP.
