BERGENFIELD — A Bergenfield doctor has been accused of sexual assault by current and former employees, and one patient, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities say an employee of Dr. Raja K. Jagtiani’s Bergenfield-based medical practice accused the doctor of touching her breast and biting her facial cheek while she was working with him on July 25.

Following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Bergenfield Police Department, three more victims were identified, including current and former employees and a patient, police said.

Jagtiani was arrested Aug. 25 and charged with five counts of criminal sexual contact, one count of simple assault and three counts of harassment by offensive touching, according to a news release from the prosecutor’s office. His bail was set at $20,000 with no 10-percent option, police said.

The 54-year-old physician is married and resides in Dumont, authorities said.

The licensed physician was ordered not to contact with the victims, and surrender his passport, and has been remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail, authorities said.

His arraignment has been set for Sept. 2 at 4 p.m., police said.

A prosecutor’s office spokeswoman has not yet responded to an NJ Advance Media inquiry for more information.

According to an online bio on webmd.com, Jagtiani graduated from medical college in India in 1984 and he specializes in general practice and internal medicine. He is affiliated with Englewood Hospital Medical Center and Holy Name Medical Center, the site states.

A message left at the Jagtiani residence has not yet been returned.

Asked about Jagtiani, Englewood Hospital Medical Center’s Senior Public Relations Specialist Jessica Griffin said he refers “a handful of his patients” to the hospital each year and “does not provide on-site care to our patients.”
