Anti-POSCO body intensify fight against attempt to carry forward POSCO project in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), an outfit known for its anti-Posco stand, held a two-day convention at Patana village near here.
PPSS president Abhay Sahoo, Lingaraj Azad, Dr Sridhar Gouttam Bandapadhay, Jharkhand tribal leader Ghanashyam, former MP cum Madhya Pradesh farmer leader Dr Sunilam, Dayamani Barla, Ashok Choudhury from Rajasthan, Lok Sanasakti leader Prafulla Samantaray, CPI leader Narayan Reddy, PPSS secretary Sisir Mohapatra and Manarama Khatua were present. About 500 delegates joined from different parts of the country. There was a consensus to oppose industrialisation in Dhinkia area and protect its land, water, forests and livelihoods of the locals.
The anti-Posco outfits converged after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured to the South Korean President that steps would be taken to solve the stalemate over the Posco plant in Jagatsinghpur district. The outfits underscored the need to get united and intensify their fight against the attempt to carry forward the project. Abhay Sahoo told to mediapersons that their struggle against Posco would be fierce in days to come.
