The first judgement under the Nirbhaya Act was delivered here sentencing an accused to life imprisonment until last breath, said Superintendent of Police (Urban) A. Venkateswar Rao.

According to him, the district special court dealing with rape cases sentenced the accused to life imprisonment in connection with the case registered at Hasanparthy police station.

One Ladella Sanjeev alias Venkatesh and Bandari Vijay had sexually abused a minor girl of Nagaram village in Hasanparthy mandal on March 14, 2013. They abducted the girl when she was alone at home on the day and threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone.

Her parents, who came to know about the incident, lodged a complaint with Hasanparthy police.

Cases under IPC section 366, 376 D, 506 read with section (5) against the accused were booked by the then Circle Inspector G. Manohar.

The prosecution held the accused guilty of the crime. The First Additional District Court Judge K.B. Narsimhulu, who heard the case on Friday, proclaimed punishments in his judgment under relevant sections related to the charges levelled against the guilty.

Apart from life imprisonment, a penalty of Rs. 50, 000 was imposed under section 376 D (rape), along with three years imprisonment plus Rs. 1,000 penalty under section 366 (abduction) and three years imprisonment plus Rs. 1,000 penalty under section 506 (threatening).

Judgement hailedThe SP hailed the judgement and said the police would stand by the girls and women always. He congratulated Additional Public Prosecutor G. Ramanuja Reddy, investigating officer G. Manohar, court officials Ramesh Babu and G. Narayana Das and Hasanparthy Constable P. Sampath.

A group of girl students from Jai Bharathi Junior College and its principal R. Karunakar met the SP and congratulated him.
