Dalit girl ‘raped’, killed in Jind, mob goes on rampage

JIND: Tension prevailed in Haryana‘s Jind on Sunday after a group of villagers pelted stones and blocked traffic at the bus stand following the alleged rape and murder of a dalit woman.

The 20-year-old woman had come to the town to appear for the junior basic teachers’ test on Saturday.

The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd which pelted stones at the police and several buses. The protesters including the family members of the woman staged a dharna at the bus stand with the girl’s body and blocked the Jind-Gohana road.

The girl had come to Jind for the exam on Saturday and did not return home. The police on Sunday found her body.

Once they heard the news, the parents of the girl came to Jind with other villagers and took the body to the bus stand before started a dharna blocking the traffic.

The villagers alleged that the girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. With the protesters resorting to violence, the police caned the crowd.

DSP Adarsh Singh said, “We found the body and sent it for autopsy but the villagers refused to bury the body and started a protest. A case of murder has been registered against unidentified people
