MUMBAI: Out to celebrate Diwali, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four of her friends in Goregaon on Friday night.

The survivor reported the incident at the Dindoshi police station on Sunday and a gang-rape case has been registered against the accused, all of whom have previous crime records. They have also been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Two history-sheeters, also part of the group, have been booked for abetting the crime.

All the six boys are missing. The police have formed two teams and they are looking for the boys—all of them in their 20s —with the help of the details provided by the survivor. “We are inquiring about their whereabouts. They are known to each other,” said zonal DCP Pravinkumar Patil.

On Friday night, six boys from Santosh Nagar in Goregaon asked the girl to join them for Diwali celebrations, said the police. As she knew the boys for two years, she did not suspect anything. They took her to an isolated spot in Goregaon (E) where they first offered her a soft drink and then, forced her to have beer, the survivor told the police. Afterwards, four among the six allegedly raped her between 9pm and 11pm. Following the crime, the accused threatened the girl into silence and forced her to accompany them to a restaurant, said cops. Though still in shock, but the girl managed to give them a slip.

The next day, she confided in a relative and they approached the police. “The police have assured us to act against them within 24 hours. If they fail to arrest them, we will approach senior officers.” The girl’s father died two years ago after which she dropped out of school. She lives with her brother after her mother left her recently.
