MUMBAI: An unemployed 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter on three occasions in the last one year at their Saki Naka residence.

The matter came to light when neighbours learnt about the survivor‘s ordeal and filed a police complaint on Saturday. The accused also reportedly stopped his daughter from going to school.

Medical examination of the class VIII survivor confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. “The father had stopped her from going to school two months ago. It is unclear if he did so due to financial problems,” said an officer.

In her complaint, the survivor said, “I kept mum worried about my family’s reputation. My father raped me whenever my mother was not around. He is unemployed and use to abuse me when my mother left for work.

Two months ago, he stopped me from going to school. I then started going with my mother to her workplace fearing him.”

The survivor broke down in front of a school friend when her father raped her on the third occasion. “The friend told her relative, the garment factory owner where the survivor’s mother works. It was only then that mother learnt about the girl’s plight,” said the officer. On Saturday, the police arrested the father and booked him for rape under Section 376 (A) of the IPC and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He will be kept in police custody till October 5.
