Odisha villagers began indefinite stir in Posco project area in demanding fulfillment of their demands
Paradeep: Villagers belonging to the proposed Posco project area and cutting across political affiliations on Monday converged at the Ersama block office and began an indefinite stir demanding fulfillment of their demands before beginning of the project work.
The protesters included those from the BJD and the Congress and both pro and anti-Posco activists. They demanded immediate fulfillment of their six-point charter of demands.
District Collector SK Mallick rushed to the dharna site and tried to pacify the protesters. However, the agitators stuck to their gun and warned the administration of dire consequences if the company takes up construction work before meeting their demands.
On the other hand, the District Collector refuted the charges and maintained that the project cannot move a step without the support of local people.
Meanwhile, Revenue Divisional Commissioner has asked Mallick convene a RPDAC meeting thrash out the issues in three weeks time. According to law experts, a RPDAC meeting is not convened in the absence of a valid MoU.
