In south Delhi, the 25-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in a moving car following which police arrested them. The woman had approached police last night after which an FIR was registered, a senior police official said.

In Moradabad in UP, a 19-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree but a senior police officer claimed that prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide.

A young Dalit woman was abducted and raped by a youth in Meerut following which he was arrested while a 21-year-old girl was raped by her paramour in Sitapur, police said.

In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old boy was on Thursday arrested in Ahmedabad for allegedly raping and killing a five-year-old girl from his neighbouring locality.

The incident came to light after the father of the girl, living near Sola bridge area in the city, approached the police when his minor daughter went missing at 10am on Wednesday.

While searching for the girl, the police learnt that the victim was last seen with the young boy working as a cleaner with a private bus operator.

On the basis of suspicion, the police interrogated the boy this morning during which he admitted to have dumped her body in the luggage compartment of a bus, Sola police inspector SM Patel said.

The boy, however, claimed that he did not rape the minor girl, Patel said, adding, “Based on the complaint we have arrested the minor boy on the charges of abduction, rape and murder.” The body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain whether she was raped, he said.

Two minor girls, who were staying in a private hostel in Pollachi town near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, were abducted and gangraped allegedly by two persons at a nearby complex, the police said.

The incident occurred past midnight when the two accused came to the hostel run by a church and asked for some water. When the girls, aged 10 and 11, fetched water for the duo, they pulled them by their hand, it said.

A boy in the hostel witnessed the incident and questioned the men, but was thrashed by the duo, who then forcibly took away the girls to a nearby complex and raped them, it said. The victims were admitted to a government hospital in Pollachi, about 35 kms from Coimbatore, with severe bleeding and injuries.

Davidson Devashirvatham, IG, West Zone and Sudhakar, Rural SP, who are conducting an inquiry, said they have received ‘some clues’ and would soon bring the culprits to book.

Meanwhile, the postmortem report of the 45-year-old woman, whose body was found hanging from a tree in Bahraich in UP yesterday, has “not confirmed rape”, even as five policemen have been suspended in connection with the case.

“The postmortem report of the woman has not confirmed rape. The cause of death is ante-mortem hanging. The body of the victim did not have any injury marks,” district magistrate NK Singh said.
