nirmala-29Chennai 28 January: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said anyone who raises slogans against the Prime Minister of the country is anti-national.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters Kamalayalam in the city, she said, “Some of the participants who took part in the mass Jallikattu protest that held in Tamilnadu earlier this month were stated as anti-nationals. This is because of the act they committed to disrespect the national flag and the Prime Minister of the country. Be it Narendra Modi or any of this predecessors, disrespecting the elected Prime Minister is utter anti-national.”

She further said, “BJP has always supported Jallikattu ever since we came to rule in 2014. We stood by the State government in all moves it took up to lift the ban on the traditional sport and finally it came true this time.”

Nirmala pointed that the previous Congress government was the one who banned the bull-taming sport but is now pretending as if it is in support of Jallikattu. “It is the Congress that has to apologise to the people of Tamilnadu in this issue as the case itself was carried out against Jallikattu by some individuals who are identified as Congress persons,” she added.

Further, she said that BJP senior leader Subramanian Swamy referring Tamils in ‘abusive context’ is not right.

“Despite Swamy being a BJP person, I personally do not agree his words and we have also asked him to avoid such mentions in the future from the side of our party,” she said. Answering to a question on the assistance of Central government to the State in the present drought condition, she said, “The Central team has visited the State now and soon there will be a proper assistance.”

When the Central Minister was queried on the delay in forming Cauvery Management Board to address the water sharing dispute between Karnataka and Tamilnadu, she said, “Everything in the Constitution has a legislative process and rules that have to be followed. We cannot take all decisions at the same speed as we did for Jallikattu issue. So, soon CMB will be formed by the Central government.”
