A 40-year-old woman from Allahabad, who was allegedly raped and attacked with acid by three men, was reportedly denied medical treatment by three hospitals.

The woman, who was dumped after the attack on the tracks close to Kanpur Railway Station, was found with severe damage to one of her
eyes, burn injuries on her face and neck.

While a case has been lodged at the Collectorgunj police station, no arrests have been made so far.

Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said, “The victim has been hospitalised. Her statement will be taken once she will be stable.”

The SSP also suspended two constables, Mahendra Yadav and Sushil Kumar, for not providing immediate medical care to the victim.

Highlighting medical apathy, a doctor gave the reason for turning down the victim as lack of women doctors in the hospital to conduct the examination.

“She told us that she has been sexually assaulted and since we cannot provide assistance in such cases due to lack of women doctors, we referred her to another hospital,” Dr SK Sharma told TIMES NOW
