Bangalore: In a shocking incident, a woman journalist working for a TV channel accused Congress minister DK Shivakumar and his henchmen of outraging her modesty by misbehaving and assaulting her.
The woman journalist at TV9/News9, who lodged a complaint with Sadashivnagar police station last week, shared her molestation ordeal on Facebook.
The news channel has also come out in defence of the journalist.
While talking to mediapersons, TV9 has said, “After receiving several complaints from the public, TV9 set up an investigative team and conducted a sting operation on people who openly demanded kickbacks for clearing business projects, especially in the name of ‘election funds’.”
The news channel alleged that the female reporter was “brutally assaulted, molested and threatened,” but no action was taken against the minister by the police.
Sharing her ordeal on social networking site Facebook on Monday, the woman journalist said, “Based on the information received from credible sources about corruption at the highest level of government, including the power sector happening in liaison with the concerned department. My colleague Shreyas and I met the Energy (Power) minister of the government of Karnataka Mr DK Shivakumar to investigate into the matter at his residence in Sadashivanagar at around 4:30 PM on March 10, 2014.”
She further added that the minister threw both the journalists at his supporters after he somehow got to know about their investigative journalism work in a mysterious way.
“I would like to highlight the fact that I was the only woman present, surrounded by almost 70 angry men, hurling abuses using foul languages and manhandling me. Despite the presence of police, no effort was made to protect us,” she asserted, adding, “My colleague Shreyas was thrashed and booted while the minister DK Shivakumar did nothing. I was inappropriately touched and molested, while DK Shivakumar and his men demanded my shirt be unbuttoned in the open because they suspected I was wearing a camera.”
The woman journalist said that she was threatened with dire consequences and forced to watch her colleague being brutally attacked. “The men also threatened us with dire consequences, using foul language, calling me a ‘w**re’ and ‘fu****g b**ch’ and other such terms,” she alleged.
