JNU teachers and students supporting Kumar claimed that they were manhandled and forced out of court by lawyers shouting slogans – “Long Live India, down with JNU”. Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested last Friday by for participating in the Afzal Guru event on February 9, in which anti-India slogans were raised.
TV Today reporters Anusha Soni and Poonam Sharma were manhandled by protesting lawyers inside the Patiala House court. The reporters were pushed out of the court and their mobile phones were also snatched by the rampaging lawyers. Delhi Police constables present inside the court campus did little to stop the lawyers from resorting to violence. Â
Delhi BJP MLA OP Sharma and few others were also caught on camera attacking a person outside the court premises. However, Sharma denied thrashing anyone, but said that people who raise anti-India slogan should be punished.
” When we were coming out of the court, we heard someone shouting “Pakistan zindabad“. When I objected to it, I was pushed. A few people present there then attacked that person,” Sharma said.
Arjun Patnaik, president of JNU Teachers Association said that he along with some other teachers had gone to the court to attend hearing of the case involving Kanhaiya Kumar. Patnaik said some lawyers manhandled JNU teachers without any provocation.
“We went there to see the JNUSU president. We were manhandled there, women teachers were also pushed by some men. Police was present but did nothing to stop the attackers. This is unfortunate and we wish to highlight this via media,” Patnaik said. Â
