NEW DELHITwo women from Aurangabad in Maharashtra have told of a subhuman treatment given to them by cops when they were detained in connection of the death of a friend. According to the complaint filed by one of the women, they were made to take their clothes off in the police station after which a woman cop put chili powder on their private parts. A probe has been launched into the matter by higher officials.

The complainant who is an engineering diploma holder said that she along with her friend were picked by the police on January 4 and were only released on January 6 in the evening. After the women were freed, the complainant’s mother approached the police commissioner Amitesh Kumar’s office and narrated the ordeal of her daughter. The commissioner termed the incidence a serious violation of human rights as he said that, “the allegations are very serious in nature. I have ordered an inquiry into the matter and it should be completed in next couple of days. The statements would be soon recorded.”

The women had been taken to the Kranti chowk police station to investigate about one of their friend’s death which they both have been saying was an accident. There they were disrobed and tortured even the CCTV footage from the spot seemed to confirm their story.

The incident took place on New Year‘s Eve when six friends, including the two women, went to a hotel to celebrate. All but the two women reportedly consumed alcohol, with one of the friends behaving crazily and going out of control. The group then dropped the two women at their rented accommodation. Back in the lodge where the rest of the four friends were staying they had an altercation leading to the accidental death of the drunken friend when he reportedly fell and got injured. He was taken to hospital but was declared brought dead.

The women on the other hand were subjected to brutality for two days and were kept at a women’s correctional centre for two nights. “We were kept in separate cells at the police station. We told the police what had happened but PSI Dhokrat and two women PSIs not only abused us but also assaulted us. Around 9.30 am, PSI Dhokrat asked the two women PSI to remove our clothes and apply chilli powder on our private parts. We were taken to the restroom and the women police officers acted as instructed,” the complainants told the media.http://www.thecitizen.in/NewsDetail.aspx?Id=6443&Maharashtra/Police/Disrobed/and/Tortured/2/Women/Complainants
