On January 27th, 2014, Mr Modi was in Mumbai to felicitate legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on the 51st anniversary of her song ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon’ sung as a tribute to India’s soldiers who died in the 1961 war with China. Addressing an audience primarily from the armed forces at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course, the 63-year-old leader said:

There is no country in the world where there is not a war memorial.India has fought many wars and thousands of our soldiers have lost their lives fighting for the country, but there is no memorial to honour their sacrifice

He further stated:

Should we not remember them? Should not there be a war memorial? I feel some good things have been left for me to do

One one hand, while, Mr Modi seems to pretty upbeat about his chances after the latest opinion polls, we want to remind him what a fiasco the opinion polls turned out for NDA in the 2009 elections – Managed opinion polls do not fetch votes.

On the other hand, Mr Modi continues to live up to his nickname “Feku” when he declares that India does not have war memorials. Here’s a quick refresher for Mr Modi.
