Mumbai: Former Mumbai police encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma has declared assets worth Rs 39 crore, including apartments and offices in his election affidavit. He also possesses a revolver worth Rs 25,000.

Sharma, who was an inspector drawing a salary of around Rs 50,000 a month before he was dismissed by the state police in 2008 for alleged underworld connections, will stand as the Republican Party of India (RPI) candidate from Andheri (East).

Sharma owns two flats in Andheri (E), measuring around 1,100 sq ft each. In the same area, Sharma also owns 7,591 sq ft commercial premises in Raylon Arcade worth Rs 9.42 crore. Most of these properties are shown in his wife’s name. The flats were purchased in 1993, while the commercial premises were bought in 2007.

The former police inspector’s wife lent various people Rs 11.50 crore while their two dependent daughters provided Rs 1.35 crore personal loans to persons/institutions. One of the daughters loaned Rs 13.35 lakh to her father. The family owns jewellery worth Rs 75 lakh, of which Sharma owns ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh.

Of the Rs 39 crore, Sharma’s wife owns Rs 20.37 crore assets. It includes the commercial premises in Raylon Arcade and 2,400 sq ft commercial premises worth Rs 2.57 crore at Panchapakadi in Thane. She also owns two adjoining flats in a residential building in Andheri (E) measuring 1,100 square feet, worth Rs 69 lakh, and 1,145 square feet worth Rs 1.44 crore. She also has a liability of Rs 20 crore.

Sharma, who joined the police force in 1984, stated in his affidavit that he and his wife were into business. He also stated that two cases are pending against him before the trial court or in the appeal court pertaining to Indian Penal Code sections for wrongful confinement, extortion, kidnapping and murder.

The RPI (A) has an alliance with the BJP and the constituency went to the latter during seat distribution. But Sharma is hopeful that his party leaders will negotiate the seat for him. If the RPI fails to get the seat, Sharma will contest as an independent or will withdrew from the fray.
