Thanks to a spontaneous online campaign, support has started building up Nipun Malhotra, who was denied entry by Keya, an upscale bar and restaurant in New Delhi, for being specially disabled.
Keya, which is located at the DLF Promenade Mall, Vasant Kunj, reportedly denied entry to Nipun Malhotra, who was born with Arthrogryposis.

The condition is a rare congenital disorder, which leads to a lack of muscles in arms and legs. Nipun Malhotra uses wheelchair to get by.

TMC leader Derek O’ Brien joined the outrage on Saturday and said he would raise the issue in the Parliament after it convenes next week,  post Holi break. He tweeted his email id to Nipun Malhotra asking for the details.

The TV channels led by NDTV are also taking note of the story.

Nipun Malhotra went with his friends to Keya, where the the security and the manager said he would not be allowed as he was disabled. There had been complaints about Keya staff behaviour in the past , though this is the first time they have been accused of serious misbehaviour.

Nipun Malhotra has never let his disability come in his way. An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College and the Delhi School of Economics, he founded the Enabling Committee and was the founding President Entrepreneurship cell  at St. Stephen’s.

He as also the first recipient of the Anil Wilson Scholarship for Future Leadership Potential. Nipun Malhotra has also been president Rotaract Club of Noida and during the year of his presidency he was awarded the best male rotaractor of the year in his district.
Nipun Malhotra is a public speaker and lobbyist advocating disability rights and equal opportunity for all. He is also a trustee at the Nipman Foundation.
