CUTTACK: The Jagatsinghpur district administration has no plans to throw security blanket over Dhinkia gram panchayat, the nerve centre of the anti-Posco movement, going to polls on April 17.

It is breathing easy since Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) president Abhay Sahoo’s son Abhijit is also in the fray for Balikuda-Ersama assembly seat on a CPI ticket.

“Four polling booths will be set up in Dhinkia. Villagers have assured to cooperate with us,” said collector (Jagatsighpur) S K Mallick.

With PPSS, spearheading the antiPosco stir, in the midst of poll heat, the administration is confident of a trouble-free election. “Since Abhay’s son is contesting elections, villagers will extend support to the poll process and create no disturbances,” the collector added.

SP (Jagatsinghpur) Satyabrata Bhoi said no additional forces would be deployed. “The situation in Dhinkia and neighbouring areas is peaceful,” he said. The villagers recently gave their consent for establishment of polling booths at Dhinkia, which has been out of bounds for government agencies, including police, for past several years, thanks to Abhay and Co.

In 2008, people barred police from entering their villages, alleging forcible land acquisition by the administration.
