New Delhi: In yet another shameful incident in Odisha, kin of a Dalit man in Balasore district, suspected to have died of AIDS was denied permission to perform his last rites in a public crematorium.

According to reports, villagers of Tentei under the Soro area barred the bereaved family of the 35-year-old man to cremate his body at the community cremation ground. Later they cremated him in the front of their house.

The deceased man was a daily labourer in Mumbai and was reportedly HIV positive. As his health deteriorated, he came back to his native village a few months back.

He was admitted to SCB College and Medical Hospital in Cuttack. Later his family members shifted him to a private hospital as they were assured of proper treatment there in lieu of Rs one lakh.

In recent times, there have been reports of cold apathy towards the poor villagers in Odisha.

Days ago, family members of a woman were forced to carry her body on their shoulders in Kabisuryanagar town. The incident occurred even after the state government launching ‘Mahaprayana’ scheme under which facility of transporting dead bodies from hospitals to their homes is provided. http://www.newsx.com/national/43892-odisha-shocker-family-of-dalit-man-dies-of-aids-denied-cremation
