BALANGIR:A woman died in Balangir district after a doctor accidentally cut her intestines during tubectomy surgery.The incident took place in Belpada Community Health Centre (CHC) and the deceased is Jashoda Dharua (40), wife of Maheswar Dharua of Pandarijor village under Belpada police limits. She was admitted to the health centre on July 23 for tubectomy surgery and discharged two days later. Jashoda suffered from abdominal pain, bleeding and had to be admitted to the CHC again on July 29 where it was found out that the doctor, who conducted tubectomy, accidentally cut her intestines. She succumbed in the health centre the same day. Maheswar alleged that his wife died due to medical negligence.

The incident came to fore on Wednesday when a rights activist Dilip Kumar Dash filed a petition in the National Human Rights Commission demanding compensation of `20 lakh for family of the deceased and disciplinary action against the doctor who carried out the surgery.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Chief District Medical Officer Sugyan Mishra said he has ordered an inquiry into incident. He said preliminary inquiry revealed that Jashoda had not taken post-surgery medicines which led to complications and death. Disciplinary action will be initiated against any doctor found guilty, he added.
