Context: The India of today has travelled much from the India of 1947. Yet much more needs to be done to realise the freedoms guaranteed by our constitution. How free are women after 70 years of Indian Independence? As India celebrates 70 years of freedom, it is time to critically examine the journey we have travelled and the challenges that remain.

The idealism, innovation and initiative of the youth, who are over 50% of our nation, is seen the relentless anti-establishment movements that seek to overturn status quo and build a more egalitarian, secular democratic India. These millennials have the passion, energy opportunity and tools for social change as never before. They use social media with audacity, brevity and creativity.

Competition: To commemorate India’s 70th Independence Day, the FreedomFilmFestival invites one minute films on ‘Freedom of Women’ (in public spaces, but also patriarchy, choice of husband and anything else). The films can explore the challenges overcome by women or challenges that remain.

The best entry will be awarded a prize of Rs. 25,000. The best three will be recognised. All 20 selected will be given certificates.
