New Delhi, February 10: The students of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) are planning to refuse to accept degrees from RK Pachauri who was retained by the organisation on a newly created post two days ago.

On Wednesday evening, two days after Pachauri was retained by TERI on a position of executive vice chairman, a second complainant had come forward accusing that Pachauri had sexually harassed her in 2003.

The convocation ceremony at TERI will be held in March where around 200 students are expected to receive their convocation certificates. According to NDTV, several of them plan to write to the University, saying that they don’t want to receive degrees given by Dr Pachauri.

An open letter written by a student to the management of TERI reportedly said, “Ignorance will take us no where, this the time to stand-up, firm and with resolve, to seek truth”.

On Monday Pachauri, a noted environmentalist was made the executive vice-chairman of the organisation, almost a year after he was removed as TERI chief after an internal inquiry committee found him guilty of misconduct.

The day after Pachauri was retained. the victim said, “The news of promotion of a man who stands booked on charges of sexual harassment at workplace… makes my flesh crawl”.

On Wednesday evening fresh charges surfaced again Pachauri. The victim had alleged that on one occasion Pachauri had forcibly held her and kissed her on face. However the victim was forced to leave TERI due to Pachauri’s misconduct and sexual advances.http://www.india.com/news/india/teri-students-refuse-to-accept-degrees-from-rk-pachauri-after-second-sexual-harassment-case-came-up-936850/
