/////////// Beginning of conversation ////////

SHO: Who are you?
Me: I’m calling from New Jersey, US. I’m calling regarding the Nov 26th incident where villagers were beaten up and i’m calling to request you to file an FIR

SHO: There is an enquiry into this and that needs to be completed.
Me: How long would this enquiry take?

SHO: As you know this is a Naxal prone area and we cant simply go into the villages to conduct the inquiry, we need security. So these things take time. And even senior officers are looking into this matter

SHO: How did you get my number?
Me: Its on the website where this incident was posted. It also had the pictures of the villagers who were beaten up.

SHO: What is your last name?
Me: I gave my last name (had to repeat 3 times)

SHO: What is your fathers name?
Me: I told him my fathers name

SHO: Where are you from?
Me: Gave the information

SHO: Which police station does it come under?
Me: I gave him some police station since i wasn’t aware. Why are you asking me? Are you going to conduct an enquiry?

SHO: Why would i conduct an enquiry? Since you were asking me the details, i wanted to know who you are?

SHO: What is your caste?
Me: I don’t know

SHO: How do you not know, you must have a caste?
Me: I don’t know, i guess my father never told me and i never asked

SHO: he laughed and said ok. And as i said, this is being looked into, an enquiry is being conducted and action will be taken based on that
Me: Thank you. Please do file the FIR since the villagers had all the evidence

The SHO was a bit surprised and certainly felt a bit uncomfortable but this shouldn’t be the case. He should feel responsible and obligated to the public and that can only happen when we become proactive and start making them accountable.

I’m not suggesting a single phone call can do this, i’m saying hundreds of such phone calls can.
