NEW DELHI: A police complaint was today filed against Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti for allegedly making communal remarks and using an expletive in an election rally here two days ago.

The complaint was filed at Tilak Nagar Police Station in West Delhi this evening by advocate Rajeev Kumar Bhola, a resident of West Delhi.

“We have received a complaint but it has to be examined whether it qualifies to be converted into an FIR,” said a senior police official.

The advocate, who filed the complaint, demanded that police should register an FIR under sections 153 (A), section 295 and 500 IPC against Jyoti.

“Our politicians have been increasingly using abusive public language and there is no control of their leadership over such utterances. Such things hurt the sentiments of the public. Action should be taken against the minister,” said Bhola.

Jyoti had stoked a controversy by allegedly asking voters to elect sons of Lord Ram and not “illegitimate sons” at a BJP rally in Dwarka on Monday evening, leaving the party and the government embarrassed.

The Minister of State for Food Processing has already expressed “deep regret” and apologised for her actions but the Opposition has been demanding her sacking.

The Opposition disrupted proceedings in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the second day today demanding her removal. She was inducted into the Council of Ministers last month.
