In a shocking incident, Aam Aadmi Party’s Roopnagar MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa was allegedly attacked by goons of sand mafia near Nurpur Bedi in Ropar district on Thursday afternoon, a party leader said.

“Sandoa was attacked by the goons of mining mafia,” AAP senior leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who is also the leader of opposition in Punjab assembly, said.

He said the legislator has been rushed to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Chandigarh.

The AAP MLA’s turban was tossed up during the attack and even two of his security personnel were thrashed.

The MLA had gone to Nurpur Bedi to check illegal mining when he was attacked by sand miners. His bodyguard and media persons accompanying him were also attacked.

Senior police officials of Ropar too have rushed to the spot where the incident took place.The police have booked eight persons for the attack on the MLA.

Earlier, a block forest officer and his colleague were seriously injured in an attack by sand mafia at Majri block in Mohali district near Chandigarh on Monday night.

Mohali deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra had banned mining in the area after the attack.
