Bhim Singh Tank, a 25-year-old dalit who was found brutally murdered at a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Shiv Lal Doda’s farmhouse in Abohar earlier this week, was charged with rape by Punjab police exactly four hours and fifteen minutes after he was allegedly hacked to death by the henchmen of the leader.However, the police did not file murder charges against the 11 accused till the next day, according to a preliminary investigation report accessed by TOI. Tank’s frightened family has now accused the Punjab Police and Punjab government of “cooking up a theory“ of rape against Tank to shield the SAD leader.
‘DIG TRYING TO STALL PROBE’
The Scommission criticised Punjab police DIG (Ferozepur range) Amar Singh Chahal for ordering registration of rape case against the dalit man to paint him as a criminal and subsequent suspension of SHO Abhinav Chauhan, who refused to do so. Instead, the commission said, Chahal should have suspended SHO Harinder Singh Chameli who did not include the names of alleged SAD leaders Shiv Lal Doda and his nephew in the FIR for the murder of the dalit man.
