3 booked for making Aadhaar cards on forged documents

A fraudulent practice of creating Aadhaar cards on forged documents has come to light in Moga city.A senior police official said three persons had been booked on the allegations of making fake domicile and residence certificates of hundreds of people to help them get Aadhaar cards by forging the signatures of Akshit Jain, the Mayor of Moga city.

 

 

 

An FIR under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Gurpreet Singh, an employee of the Sewa Kendra* along with Devinder Singh and Pardeep Kaur at the city-I police station on the complaint of Akshit Jain.

 

The whereabouts of the accused are yet to be ascertained. During preliminary investigations, it came to light that the accused used to charge heavy amount of money from non-residents of Moga city who did not have address proofs.The accused used fake stamps and letter pads of Akshit Jain to make domicile and residence certificates of the applicants. 

 

Although it has not yet been established as to how many Aadhaar cards were made on forged documents, the police believe the number could be in hundreds. “We will soon arrest the accused and find out how many Aadhaar cards have been made on forged documents,” said ASI Gurjit Singh, who is investigating the case.*

 

Note added on March 31, 2018: The above report was published on March 26, 2018. BLS International Services, a company that provides most of the services at Sewa Kendras in Punjab, subsequently sent a message to The Tribune stating that the booked employee was not working for them, and was engaged by some other company.
