ILA

Bilkul News, Ahmedabad, Jan 9: Very few women activists in the country have worked for the oppressed urban women. Ilaben was one such.

Ila Pathak succumbed to the breast cancer she was fighting with. Ilaben succumbed while fighting with breast cancer at city’s hospital today.

In August Pathak was honored for her work, and four books – compilation of her articles on promoting women equality, individuality and empowerment – were released by author and sculptor Esther David at the Gajjar Hall in Ahmedabad.

Ila Pathak, founding secretary of Ahmedabad Women Action Group (AWAG), an NGO working for women’s rights, has written to women wing of Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries, stating that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi‘s address to them in New Delhi in April last year  was “half-truth”.

In her letter addressed to “Madams of FICCI“, Pathak, a former English literature lecturer-turned-activist has highlighted the alleged declining female sex ratio in Gujarat, high ratio of sex selection  and married women’s poor health.

A fighter Ilaben was a soft spoken lady with a distinct smile on her lips.
