Sanjay Leela Bhansali was assaulted today when factions opposed the plot of his upcoming Padmavati, starring Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Rajput Karni Sena protestors attacked the sets on the grounds that the movie was historically inaccurate and showing the Rajasthani queen in a bad light. The director was slapped and his clothes were torn in the chaos that ensued, even as his security fired in the air to stop the assault. Photos of the assault show the protesters threw around shooting equipment. Bhansali had to eventually call the police to ensure the safety of his sets. It is not known so far whether Shahid and Deepika were harmed during the assault. The film is currently being shot in Jaipur at the Jaigarh Fort, according to a report on NDTV.
Padmavati was earlier in the news when sketches for Deepika Padukone’s look for the film was leaked. Ever since then, Bhansali ordered extra security on the sets to ensure that no more secrets of the film go out. However, these measures apparently weren’t enough to keep the protesters off the sets. Bhansali’s earlier project, which also stared Deepika and Ranveer, faced protests on grounds of being historically inaccurate.

Any historical inaccuracies or obscene scenes that are being shot may be condemned as they project bad image of the history as well as the queen. The film should not contain sexual exploitation of women and distortion of the character of women
