Sean Penn’s Interview With El Chapo Led To The Drug Kingpins Arrest

Photo: YouTubeThe elusive drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was recaptured again last week after escaping from prison and spending several months on the run.

El Chapo runs the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most brutal and wealthy drug cartels in the world. He has actually been captured by Mexican police on two different occasions and was able to escape each time with little problem.

Mexican officials announced after the arrest that they may agree to extradite Guzman to the US where he will face numerous charges. Guzman may have been able to continue evading authorities, however, he recently decided to record an interview for Rolling Stone with actor Sean Penn, and this meeting ultimately led to his capture.

The interview was actually extremely insightful and showed a side of El Chapo that the world has never seen before.

In the interview, Guzman explained, “Well, from the time I was 15 and after, where I come from, which is the municipality of Badiraguato, I was raised in a ranch named La Tuna, in that area, and up until today, there are no job opportunities. The only way to have money to buy food, to survive, is to grow poppy, marijuana, and at that age, I began to grow it, to cultivate it and to sell it. That is what I can tell you.”

Somehow, authorities were able to track the movements of the crew that interviewed El Chapo and were able to gather some details about his possible whereabouts.

Government agents in the US and Mexico may celebrate the capture of El Chapo, but his arrest will change nothing about the drug trade, and he will simply be replaced by many more who are drawn in by the massive incentive that is created by prohibition. As long as drugs are illegal, there will be an illegal drug trade, and there will be kingpins who are willing to risk their lives to make a fortune.

“The day I don’t exist, it’s not going to decrease in any way at all,” Guzman said in the interview.
