Bareilly: Ecstatic over the scrapping of Section 66A of IT Act and completely misreading the Supreme Court verdict on internet freedom, a station officer in Bareilly posted porn clips on a WhatsApp group that unfortunately for him also had some of his seniors in the police department, including the DIG (range), SPs of various districts, MLAs and other eminent citizens.
Jeet Singh, who is the station officer at Badaun‘s Alapur police station and also a member of the WhatsApp group ‘Khabar Pradesh Ki’, had sent the obscene material on Thursday night, triggering shock and dismay almost immediately by the others members. Though the senior sub-inspector-rank officer, realising the outrage, quickly defended himself saying his phone had fallen in the hands of his truant son who was responsible for the misdeed, few believed him and there is a probe on now.

Soon after Singh sent out the pictures, the matter was brought to the notice of the group administrator Vijay Srivastava, who in turn contacted the police. When Singh was confronted by Srivastava on the matter, the officer told him that his son might have done it.

Senior superintendent of police, Badaun, Saumitra Yadav said, “To the group administrator Singh blamed his son, to others he said that his personal phone number had erroneously connected with some other number and it was the user of that number who had posted the objectionable clips.”

Yadav added, “Although I have instructed my juniors to look into the whole incident and submit a report, if any of the group members wishes to lodge a complaint against the officer he is free to do so.”
