Shehla Masood case: Approver denies statement about CBI’s ‘deal’ with former MLA

Irfan, the accused-turned-approver in the RTI activist Shehla Masood murder case, on Wednesday denied he had given a statement that ‘a deal’ of Rs 12 crore had been struck between CBI and former BJP MLA Dhurvnarayan Singh who has got a clean chit in the case from the agency.

During the cross-examination by the defence, he said he had made no such statement either before CBI or the court. The trial of the case is currently underway in the court of special CBI judge Rajeev Kumar Ayachi. Irfan also reiterated that he was with the sharp-shooter Tabish when the latter shot Masood dead outside her residence in Bhopal on August 16, 2011.

Ifran also told the court today that co-accused Saqib Ali aka Danger, who had arranged the shooters for the prime accused Zahida Pervez, helped him with money to hire a lawyer. However, to a question by the defence, Irfan backtracked on his earlier statement that Pervez had given him money to hire a lawyer. The court then adjourned the hearing to December 17. According to CBI, Pervez had hatched the conspiracy to kill Masood as she was jealous of latter’s relations with Dhruvnarayan Singh.
