The Special Task Force arrested notorious criminal Monu Pahadi, an accused in Shanu Olanga murder case, following an encounter on Wednesday. Olanga had killed Bhopal-based RTI activist Shehla Masood.

“Acting on a tip off, STF team nabbed Monu Pahadi alias Rashid, of Dalelpurwa locality, near Brahmdev temple close to Awas Vikas Road in Naubasta after an encounter,” SSP, STF, Amit Pathak said.

A pistol of .32 bore, four cartridges, a two-wheeler and a mobile phone were recovered from Pahadi, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head. He was wanted in connection with several heinous crimes, he added.

The police further said that Monu Pahadi had killed Shanu Olanga, near Gora Kabristan in Civil Lines area on November 30, 2011. It may be recalled that the photo of the shoot-out operation was captured by photographer of a local news daily.

The photo showed Shanu Olanga lying near his two-wheeler and two men carrying sophisticated guns standing by. His father Israr lodged an FIR against two persons — Raees Banarasi and Sharif Dhapali — alleging that they had killed his son over an old enmity. Later, Raees was arrested in Varanasi in another case.

During questioning, Raees reportedly confessed to having killed Shanu Olanga to avenge his brother Naushad Kallia’s murder in 2006. Raees had reportedly also said that three others, namely Guddu Bind, Sharif Dapali and Monu Pahadi, were involved in Olanga’s murder. Monu was also involved in 2011 killing of his 24-year-old girlfriend Niha, who was shot in full public view near Shiv Kailash Temple in Parampurwa locality of Juhi area.

Shanu Olanga was a part of the three-member team hired by Saqib alias Danger for Rs 3 lakh to kill Bhopal-based RTI activist Shehla Masood. On the morning of August 16, 2011, Shanu along with one Irfan had killed Masood in front of her Koh-e-Fiza residence in Bhopal.
