According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday night and the arrest was made on Friday afternoon following the registration of an FIR.

New Delhi: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police has been sent to 14-days` custody for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman, say reports.

The accused policeman reportedly raped the woman at gunpoint on Thursday and was also allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Reports add that the incident was captured in CCTV cameras and a case has been registered against the accused. The police is also trying to verify the CCTV footage

A senior police officer of Northwest district said the accused, Javeer Singh (50), was posted at the Punjabi Bagh police station in West Delhi.

“Investigation has revealed that the accused met with woman’s employer a few months ago during the investigation of a case. Later, they became good friends. On Thursday, the woman’s employer invited Singh to a party,” the officer said.

The accused stayed at his friend’s home on Thursday after the party, police said.

“The woman was asked by her employer to take Singh to the guest room, where the accused raped her. He threatened her  at gun point with dire consequences if she informed anyone about the incident,” the officer said. The woman later called the police control room and informed them about the incident.

A case was registered on the basis of the woman’s complaint. After the medical report confirmed sexual assault, the accused was arrested and sent to 14-days’ judicial custody by a court on Friday.

New Delhi, July 11 (ANI): ActivistJagmati Sangwan on Saturday demanded strict action against the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who allegedly raped a woman at gunpoint.

“This is a very shameful incident and definitely comes under the aggravated form of crime. Not only the ASI responsible should be punished, but his officer-in-charge, he should also be taken to the task. If the police of our capital behaves like this and sexually assaults women then what about the nation. We demand strict action against both of these,” she told ANI.

“From our organisation, we will help the victim and her family as it is required and at the same time we want to emphasise that the slogans with which the Delhi Police is coming out ‘Delhi Police aapki sewa mein, aapke sehyog mein’ all is being exposed by these incidents,” she added.
