Kannur: We know many strong women around us. But Chithralekha, a dalit woman who is working as autorickshaw driver in Payannur turned special among all strong women. Bringing surprise to Keralites, a British scriptwriter Fraser Scott decided to make a film featuring Chithralekha’s life. As part of his script works, Scott arrived in Kannur on Wednesday and will feature Chithralekha’s life in an upcoming Bollywood movie.

Fraser Scott communicated with Chithralekha with the help of a translator. He enquired in detail about her life and adversities that she faced in life.

Fraser Scott stated that his movie will feature caste discrimination prevailing in Kerala and Chithralekha’s fight against it. At the same time, the movie will not be a biopic of Chithralekha. It will be a fiction based on the challenges and issues which she faced in life, said the foreign filmmaker.

“I have studied different sides of Chithralekha’s life. I have prepared it like a story. Now, I am busy with my works to transform it into the big canvas of a film script,” said Scott.

However, Scott is on the mission to find a producer and actors for the movie. He has a plan about the actress who will be playing the lead role.

“This is a Hindi movie. Shooting will be done outside Kerala,” Said Fraser Scott.

Chithralekha stated that Scott visited her to sign an agreement related to the movie.

Months ago, the attacks on grounds of caste against Chithralekha grabbed news headlines. Following this, renowned Bollywood director Shekhar Kapoor in his Instagram post revealed that a British filmmaker wishes to make a movie on Chithralekha.

Payyannur Edatt native Chithralekha staged a hunger strike for 122 days in 2005, demanding protection from social boycotting and caste-based attacks and discrimination. Though the then ruling UDF government had offered Rs 5 lakh for her to build a house, the LDF government that came to power later rejected it. Presently, her house is being constructed with the help of Green Voice, the expatriates’ collective of Muslim League under the initiative of K. M. Shaji MLA.
