NEW DELHI:  A 24-year-old woman has alleged gangrape by two members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the police said on Tuesday. As per complaint, Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla’s father is one of the accused, who reportedly raped the victim on several occasions in the past few months.

A case has been registered against AAP leader Ram Pratap Goyal and Bhupender, under IPC section 376 D (gangrape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Further investigation is on, police said.

Goyal is Birla’s father and Bhupendra an AAP member allegedly abused the victim on the pretext of  of getting her a party ticket for the Municipal Corporation  of Delhi (MCD) elections.

AAP Delhi convener Dilip Pandey said the allegation had no substance and was yet another attempt by the BJP to tarnish AAP’s image. “Ram Pratap Goyal holds the post of block treasurer in Rohini. He is a respected leader. Neither he nor Bhupender remembers meeting the complainant at any point of time,” he said.

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhaya while reacting to the incident said, “Yet again today again the anti-women character of Aam Aadmi Party stands exposed with the report coming in of an AAP office-bearer raping a woman on the pretext of helping her get AAP  nomination for ensuing elections.

The complainant further told the police that she met Goyal at Sector three, Rohini in north-west Delhi and they exchanged numbers. They remained in touch for nearly 4-5 months and she was eventually promised a party ticket for the MCD elections.

She further said in her complaint that Goyal called her near his office one day to talk about the ticket, and then took her to a vacant flat of his friend where he physically abused her, police said.
