Jashodaben, wife of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has moved an appeal before the office of Mehsana Superintendent of Police under RTI provisions, after she was denied information about her entitlements as the PM’s spouse through an RTI application filed in November 2014.

Recently, The Sunday Express had reported that the Public Information Officer (PIO) and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bhakti Thakar, had sent a reply to Jashodaben, stating that the information sought by her could not be provided since it concerned the Local Intelligence Bureau (LIB) which was exempted from RTI provisions.

In her appeal before the first appellate authority of Mehsana district police, Jashodaben has stated that she has moved the application after being “aggrieved” by the reply she got from the PIO.

In her appeal, she said the PIO denied her information on “fake reasons”. “I, the applicant, have applied as the wife of the Prime Minister of India. Despite that, the name of my husband has not been written (in the reply)… and only my father’s name has been written. And this makes it clear that the Information Officer has a grievance towards me,” she stated in her appeal.
